ROSEVILLE, MINN. (Feb. 18, 2019) — For more than 20 years, the BATC-Housing First Minnesota Foundation has tapped the talents and resources of the member builders, remodelers, and suppliers of the association to help those who otherwise might not have the opportunity to have a safe and affordable home. The Foundation builds, remodels and repairs homes for Twin Cities veterans and families in need, often in partnership with local charities and organizations.

The thousands of people who contribute $5 to tour the Dream Remodeled Homes during the Remodelers Showcase (as well as the Dream Homes on the Parade of Homes tour) are a major source of funds for the Foundation.

Traditional Two-Story

Nor-Son Custom Builders
6124 Ridgeway Road
Edina, MN
#R30

  • This traditional two-story home was completely transformed, resulting in the perfect blend of old meets new.
  • White oak flooring runs underfoot, while a combination of knotty alder and painted enamel trim is highlighted by the extensive beam ceiling treatments in the sunroom, kitchen, and lower-level bar.
  • The fully updated kitchen includes an open floor plan, custom cabinetry, top-of-the-line appliances, an oversized island for the whole family to gather around, and modern white finishes.
  • A new mudroom, laundry room with two sets of washers and dryers, and pantry keep the homeowners organized and efficient.
  • The vaulted family room and sunroom is a favorite place for the whole family to relax while sunlight streams through the windows. • Upstairs, an expanded master suite was updated with modern-day amenities including a soaking tub, large walk-in shower, heated floors, and wall-to-wall tile.
  • The lower-level addition made space for a new entertaining area that opens directly to the pool patio including an open bar with reclaimed wood ceiling.
  • The entertaining space has an all-inclusive aesthetic with a large TV, commercial ice maker, a new game room with shuffleboard, and a contemporary wine room with a custom tongue-and-groove wall.

Subtly Modern Midwest

Becker Building & Remodeling, Inc.
7968 Edgewood Drive
Mounds View, MN
#R55

  • Nestled in a humble Mounds View neighborhood, this complete remodel provides a quiet oasis for the builder, his wife, and their two dogs.
  • The subtly modern exterior blends in seamlessly with the established neighborhood, and includes designer touches such as black windows, smart siding, detailed stonework, and cedar accents.
  • The basement and foundation of the home were kept and expanded upon, increasing the square footage and allowing for three bedrooms and two bathrooms with all one-level living.
  • Needing a place to host large family gatherings and let grandchildren run free, the owners customized each area of the main living area to make it feel both open and cozy.
  • The linear fireplace with an additional blower to the basement is encased in black tile, a floating hearth, and walnut paneling to the side, creating one of the feature walls in the open area.
  • The large dining area has a 10-foot, custom-made dining table, and the raised ceiling and lighted walnut crown in the living area acts as a visual divider between the spaces.
  • The bar area, just off the kitchen, gives a place outside of the working area to serve coffee and drinks and features custom chevron glass door fronts, a brushed metallic cubic backsplash, and paneled refrigerator drawers.
  • Quartzite countertops, vein-cut marble tile splash, black stainless appliances, and modern globe pendants give the kitchen a modern and fresh feel, while custom frameless cabinets perfect the space.
  • The walnut island ties together the accents, and the light taupe cabinetry gives the large kitchen space a light and airy feel.
  • The porch, just off the kitchen, is arguably the best room in the house, with comfy furniture, a cowhide rug, wood paneling, and a modern Venetian plaster variation for the fireplace surround.
  • The laundry room, conveniently located off the master suite, will make anyone happy to do laundry, with light and airy wallpaper and light green cabinets.
