On July 30, 2015, the four medically fragile young men who make Bluebird House their home, along with staff and family plus representatives from Homeward Bound, the BATC Foundation, Vujovich Design Build and many of the companies participating in the project, gathered together in the backyard of the suburban group home to celebrate the beginning of construction with cake and camaraderie. Golden shovels were wielded by key partners, ceremoniously removing the first few clumps of dirt to make way for the home’s new family room addition.

Bluebird House

Bluebird House is a group home operated by Homeward Bound and undergoing renovation by the charitable arm of the Builders Association of the Twin Cities (BATC) to improve the quality of life for the residents. The typical 1960’s rambler is a tight squeeze for the residents along with all their medical equipment. The Foundation’s Build Partner, Vujovich Design Build, based in Minneapolis, will be adding a bedroom, family room and additional storage space. The new family room will finally allow all the residents to gather together, and will be a comfortable place for the residents to host family and friends.

The project is made possible through the BATC Foundation and Vujovich Design Build which is in charge of design and construction. Many thanks to the dozens of Twin Cities businesses that are donating materials and labor to complete this project.
