Whole House Remodel

Fine Art, Meet Whimsy

This Dream Remodeled Home is truly a work of art shot through with a touch of whimsy that is simply breathtaking. This is seriously a one-of-a-kind delight that you won’t want to miss.

When the owners, long-time White Bear residents, discovered that this near-by lakeshore property was available, they knew they were ready to move. At first they were looking at a more modest-remodeling project to update the tired chalet-styled home, but as they progressed and Cates Fine Homes introduced them to architect Michael Huber, they decided to create a unique expression all their own.

And expressive it is. From the elegant beamed curved ceiling to the unconventional tilted wood slab walls, the main living spaces are amazing. Wood plays a major role throughout, and juxtaposes finishes, species and color in truly beautiful ways. The wood ceiling, walls, doors, cabinetry and built ins each have a character all their own, yet marry together in whimsical harmony.

But, before you get too comfortable with all that wood, the sparkle and glow of a variety of colored and shaped glass catches your eye. Taupe and cream as kitchen backsplash, ecru and honey in the owners’ suite circular shower, and bold Mondrian-styled panels at the owners’ suite bedroom provide a striking point of contrast you’ll love.

Even the layout is unique. The entry level of this two-story home includes the family room, guest bedrooms and an amazing shop which is designed to turn back into bedrooms for the home’s next owner. Access to the garage leads down a gallery, perfect for displaying the family’s works of art. Step up the graceful glass accented staircase to the upper level and you’ll find the dramatically open main living area and owners suite. This topsy-turvy layout makes total sense when you see how perfectly the spaces fit beneath the high curved vaulted ceiling.

There’s so much more to see in this extraordinary home, so you definitely need to put this on your Remodelers Showcase trip planner. And remember, your $5.00 Dream Remodeled Home donation will help the BATC Foundation build and remodel homes to help area families in need — like their most recent project to make a Viet Nam Veteran’s home accessible for his newly required wheelchair.

Remodeled Home #R57
Elevation Homes
4805 E. Sunnyslope Rd., Edina
Tear Down

Coastal Style on Minnehaha Creek

For anyone who appreciates the simplicity and sophistication of classic East Coast style, a visit to this stunning 2013 Fall Remodelers Showcase Dream Home is the next best thing to an autumn weekend on Georgica Pond in the Hamptons. The $5.00 entrance fee benefits the BATC Foundation, which supports the Twin Cities community by providing scholarships, and building, remodeling, and repairing homes.

Situated on an exquisite one-acre peninsula with more than 300 feet of waterfront on Minnehaha Creek in Edina’s Country Club neighborhood, this remarkable whole-home remodel is the result of a dynamic and rewarding collaboration between the homeowners; Nate Wissink, project director; Elevation Homes, a division of Streeter & Associates; and Charlie Simmons, residential designer and principal of Charlie and Co.

“The clients had a very clear vision of what they wanted for this one-of-a-kind piece of land—an exquisite home with a clean, streamlined exterior and warm, inviting interiors,” says Wissink.

Designed and built in a modern interpretation of traditional Gothic Farmhouse style,
the H-shaped layout of the home makes the most of the breathtaking panoramic views of Minnehaha Creek and the breezes off the water. Steep roof pitches and tall, narrow windows balance the horizontality of the site, while white lap siding and metal clad shed roof elements reinforce the farmhouse vernacular of the design.

Inside the house, a series of open and inviting rooms include five bedrooms, six bathrooms, an elegant kitchen and dining room, a formal living room and a casual family room divided by a Venetian plaster clad fireplace, an office, a pet area/mud room, and a bonus storage room over the three-car garage. Using sophisticated materials and warm, rich colors and textures, Wissink and his team of artisans and craftspeople brought the clients’ vision for a distinctive, East Coast-style waterfront home to life.

Formal Living Room, Owners’ Suite, Game Room & Powder Room

Comfortable, Established Living

AMALIA G. Inc. has worked extensively with the owners of this Tonka Bay home since 2007 to guide them toward the intended goal of creating a setting that reflects their values, sensibilities and lifestyle. This most recent endeavor reflects AMALIA G.’s collaborative relationship between architecture and furniture; form and function; client, designer and builder.

AMALIA G.’s thoughtful and deliberate approach to creating environments that exude comfort, harmony and lack of pretense are well represented by a once open, two story room that has been transformed into an intimate yet spacious first floor living room and a sophisticated 2nd floor owner’s suite with expansive lake views and a home gym. Equally impressive at the end of the second story hall, is a memorable powder room and a well-appointed game room with home theater, kitchen and bar.

AMALIA G. invites you to see the photo journal documenting the journey of this home before and during construction, the implementation of cutting edge products and technology, and why meticulous planning and attention to detail are two of this company’s core fundamentals.
