ROSEVILLE, MINN. (August 15, 2012) — During the Parade of Homes, the public has an opportunity to help area families in need when they visit the BATC Foundation Dream Homes. During this event, visitors can visit three very special Dream Homes. All three are MN Green Path Certified.
All visitors to these Dream Homes are asked to pay a tax-deductible $5.00 admission fee at the door. All proceeds will be used by the BATC Foundation, the charitable arm of the Builders Association of the Twin Cities, to help continue their work building and remodeling for low-income Twin Cities families. All other Parade HomesSM are open for viewing at no cost.
Parade HomeSM #76
Homes by Tradition LLC
50 Brunswick Avenue N., Golden Valley
$1,079,000
A Suburban Haven Minutes from the City
Green Dream Home #76 is a rare treat — a new home in the heart of Golden Valley. This beauty is set in a truly suburban neighborhood with plenty of mature trees and established, well-tended homes yet less than five miles to the Minneapolis Farmers Market, the Walker Art Center and Target Field.
The architectural styling is pure urban farmhouse. Rich, pewter-toned lap siding is balanced by pale, rough-hewn aggregate stone porches and reclaimed, tumbled granite at terrace, driveway and sidewalk. A narrow footprint takes best advantage of the homesite, as do several decks and porches, including a lavish screen porch with brick wood-burning fireplace and pizza oven.
Inside, the floor plan is both graceful and livable, with a dramatic arched gallery from front to back. The more formal spaces are arranged to the front, including a glamorous library with lacquered walls and mahogany woodwork. The formal dining room sits midway through the main floor, with double doors to a dining porch and easy staging from a butler’s pantry. Step further back and you’ll be delighted by the well planned kitchen and gathering room that opens to both the screen porch and barbecue porch. Professional appliances, Danby marble and walnut butcher block top the cabinetry and huge island in the kitchen; while a reclaimed beamed ceiling and cast stone fireplace augment the adjacent gathering room.
Atop the stairs you’ll discover a media room/office with double doors to a breezy deck. To the front are two family bedrooms, full bath and laundry. Across the rear second floor is a truly incredible owners’ suite with skyline views, simply huge walk-in wardrobe plus a grand bath.
A retro theater anchors the lower level, which also boasts a bath, extra pantry and exercise room that could become a fourth bedroom as needed. This level also houses the high-efficiency heating and cooling system, just one of the ecologically sensitive choices you’ll find throughout (don’t forget to review the Home Performance Report when you visit).

Hartman Homes, Inc.
2787 Itasca Avenue S., St. Mary’s Point
$1,850,000
River-Side Reflections
“Back in mid-June, I stopped by to check on the progress of this tear-down home on the St. Croix River,” said Derek Bratager with Hartman Homes. “It was a busy scene, as the subcontractors and laborers were doing their thing — siding, roofing, and some interior tiling. The home was really beginning to take shape!
“As I wandered through the house, I couldn’t help imagining the finished product with its hickory hardwood flooring, soapstone and Carrara marble countertops, and inset painted cabinetry. Then I walked out behind the house toward the river to snap a quick picture of the rear of the home.
“It was a very balmy day, with a perfect breeze from the East off of the river. As I stepped outside and looked toward the river, there was Jack – the homeowner – sitting in a lawn chair facing the river. He was comfortable in the shade of the many mature oaks guarding the backyard, and quietly watching his grandchildren swim in the sandy shallows off the riverbank. A few minutes later, his wife, Cleo, came strolling down the yard to join him.”
Happening upon scenes like this are one of the joys of home building. The other is creating a home like this. The original home and garage on this exceptional riverfront homesite were torn down to make way for this Green Dream Home, which combines a period Shingle-style theme with a host of green features and new siting to bring it into conformance with regulations for river-side construction.
At 4,260 square feet, the two-story home is oriented to showcase the beauty of the river. A full-length covered porch on the main floor plus private decks off each of the upper-level bedrooms and office, were combined with a line of Marvin windows to ensure year-round panoramic views. But that doesn’t mean the inside was neglected. The floor plan lives beautifully, whether for a quiet breakfast for two or a final summer gathering of family and friends.
With its distinctive beach-inspired architecture, classically appointed details and ecologically sensitive design and construction, this home is truly a not-to-be-missed Dream Home this fall.
“Just walk through the oak-lined yard down to the banks of the St. Croix River,” invites Bratager. “Dig your toes into the sandy beach, turn around to gaze at the beautiful beach-inspired home, and surely you will be capturing the American Dream.”
