For more than 20 years, the BATC Foundation has tapped the talents and resources of the member builders, remodelers, and suppliers of the Builders Association of the Twin Cities to help families who otherwise might not have the opportunity to have a safe and affordable home. The Foundation builds, remodels and repairs homes for Twin Cities families in need, often in partnership with local charities and organizations.
The thousands of people who donate $5.00 to tour the Artisan Dream Homes and Artisan Dream Remodeled Homes during the Parade of Homes℠ are a major source of funds for the Foundation. Last year, visitors to the Parade of Homes and Remodelers Showcase® raised more than $100,000 during the Spring and Fall tours.
This Fall, the Foundation’s most recent project, a Special Dream Home for homeless veterans is open to tour for a $5.00 donation.
A New Home for Veteran Families
Serving the men and women who have honorably served their country is high on the priority list for the BATC Foundation, so working with the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans (MACV) was a no-brainer. For over 25 years, MACV has been assisting veterans who are homeless. They currently operate more than a dozen homes for single adults across the state while offering a variety of comprehensive services to help these men and women move ahead with their lives.
MACV has provided housing for single adults, until now. The Foundation’s newest project is an accessible, high-tech single-family home designed and constructed by Build Partner Lennar, and will become MACV’s first home designed to provide housing for veteran families. While in the home, residents will work with MACV case managers who give homeless veterans the support and confidence to once again find success for brighter futures.
The Home
Families will love the welcoming exterior design that features a full front porch with stone based columns, warm gray siding and warm white accents at pillars and trim. With 3,791 square feet, you’ll find five bedrooms, four bathrooms and a detached two-car garage. The MACV home is intricately designed to accommodate wheelchair access with laundry, island kitchen, great room with its full height stone fireplace, owner’s suite and private bathroom all on the main level.
The interior of the home is designed with easy care materials and finishes that are beautiful and right in step with today’s trending styles, from the wood-look laminate flooring to the quartz countertops and dominant neutral and gray color scheme. The upper level features three bedrooms which share the full bath and an open loft space for family game time or a little study time. The lower level houses the play spaces, with media and game rooms and craft area plus a compact exercise room. A rear deck transitions indoor and outdoor spaces, opening from the dining room as well as the rear mud room and laundry, providing easy access from the detached garage.
The MACV home features Lennar’s exclusive Wi-Fi certified program. This guarantees Wi-Fi access from every room of the home with no dead spots. In addition, all digital features of the home are united by Amazon Alexa to allow for a virtual lifestyle assistant to play music, read the news, place orders and much more by simply asking Alexa to do so. This program also allows residents to easily adjust the temperature of the home, lock the doors or answer the door from their smartphone. All these features, and many more, are set up and activated by Amazon experts to ensure that everything works properly and with ease.
Nearly everyone can think of a person or family member who has devoted their efforts or even their life to our country and freedom. The MACV home is meant to be a sign of appreciation, from all the participants involved to the veterans and their families who have fearlessly served this country. The hope is that this home will function as a safe haven for veterans and their families during their period of transition.
