ROSEVILLE, MINN (January 9, 2013) — The Builders Association of the Twin Cities (BATC) inducted its 2013 President and Board of Directors at a dinner meeting held at the Roseville Radisson Hotel the evening of January 9, 2013. Pamela Belz, project developer with Senior Housing Partners, a divison of Presbyterian Homes and Services, was elected to serve as the Association’s president for 2013, and will lead a 17 member board during her year long term as President.

Belz will oversee the activities of the 1,100-member trade association, the leading voice for builders and remodelers. The association’s mission is to help its members build their businesses through marketing, advocacy and industry connections. Belz is an excellent choice to take the reins of the Association at a time when the housing industry is beginning to show real signs of recovery yet facing real challenges in the regulation arena.

Under the leadership of Belz, the Association will continue its focus on membership growth and securing the strength of its premier marketing brand, the Parade of Homes℠. And, with Belz’ strong interest and experience in public policy issues, the Association will be focusing particularly upon its advocacy mission.

“Our industry is facing a number of very important challenges right now,” Belz says. “Our industry is barely in recovery yet a number of issues could have a major dampening effect locally, including a fire-sprinkler mandate, energy code changes, environmental regulations, new storm water permit rules and municipal fees that have gotten out of whack.”

Belz has been in the housing industry since 1987, beginning as a project manager developing residential neighborhoods. She’s worked for private companies, served some time lobbying for the Builders Association of Minnesota, and run her own development business, before joining Senior Housing Partners. “I redirected my energy to senior housing development, which is what I had gone to school for originally,” explains Belz. “I truly enjoy building new senior housing campuses as well as redeveloping existing campuses that need repositioning.”

A well-known face around BATC, Belz has served as the chair of Public Policy committee, chair of the Professional Women in Building Council, BATC’s Treasurer, and 2012 Vice President. She’s been at the forefront of BATC’s work at the state Capitol, and has visited with Minnesota’s Senators and Representatives in Washington DC on numerous occasions. Belz also initiated (in 2010) and serves as chair of BATC’s independent expenditure fund, Housing First.

Belz lives in Afton with her husband Rob and two Australian Shepherds, Bogie and Gracie. She is an avid horse lover, and has spent many hours in the show ring.

“I’m honored and humbled to take the reins at BATC as we continue the slow and steady but precarious climb out of a devastating housing recession,” she says. ”My goal is to ensure BATC utilizes its resources and harnesses our collective power to accomplish what we cannot do alone.”
