Pawlenty stands apart as the leader with experience to drive the housing and homeownership policy discussion in Minnesota

Housing First Minnesota, the state’s leading voice for homebuilding and remodeling, has formally endorsed Tim Pawlenty for Minnesota Governor.

“Tim Pawlenty is an experienced and proven housing leader who knows that the American dream of homeownership is central to the lives of Minnesotans, the communities where they live, and to the fabric of Minnesota’s economy,” said Tom Wiener, president of Housing First Minnesota.

Pawlenty’s experience as a housing leader spans his time as a member of Eagan’s City Council, to the Minnesota House of Representatives, to his two previous terms as Minnesota’s Governor. He has consistently championed policies that promote safe, affordable housing; balancing resource protection and the needs of Minnesota families.

Starting early last year, Housing First Minnesota leaders embarked on an ambitious plan to engage all major gubernatorial candidates in a housing policy discussion. In total, eleven candidates participated in these discussions, including Matt Dean, Keith Downey, Blake Huffman, Mary Giuliani Stephens, Jeff Johnson, Erin Murphy, David Osmek, Rebecca Otto, Tim Pawlenty, Paul Thissen, and Tim Walz. After assessing written responses to policy questions, reviewing measures of demonstrated housing policy support, and completing extensive discussions, Housing First Minnesota leadership unanimously selected Tim Pawlenty as the best choice for Governor.

“Minnesota is experiencing a housing affordability crisis that is negatively impacting first-time homebuyers most directly,” said David Siegel, executive director of Housing First Minnesota. “We need bold, experienced leadership to improve the housing market, which is what Tim Pawlenty offers.”

Housing First Minnesota is the leading voice for home builders and remodelers and all who are dedicated to building safe, durable homes at a price Minnesotans can afford. Housing First Minnesota represents more than 1,300 builders, remodelers, developers and industry suppliers throughout the state.
