FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September was a good month for new residential construction in the Twin Cities. Almost 90 percent more units were permitted in September 2012 than in September 2011. And, September had the third highest number of units permitted this year, behind only July and August.

According to statistics compiled by the Keystone Report for the Builders Association of the Twin Cities (BATC), there were 413 permits for a total of 666 units during four weeks in the month of September, 2012. Year-to-date, there were 3,080 permits issued for a total of 5,571 units.

“Reports from our fall Parade of Homes confirm that the new construction market is doing better than it has in some time,” said Builders Association of the Twin Cities 2012 President and owner of Lee Lyn Construction, Curt Christensen. “Most of our builders reported strong traffic to their models, and even better, plenty of buyers were out looking.

“The industry is looking forward to a return to more normal levels of demand in 2013 and 2014,” Christensen said.

In September, Minnetonka led the metro area in building activity with 63 units permitted, with St. Louis Park not far behind at 59. Eagan ranked third with 49 units, followed by Mendota Heights with 47 and Blaine with 32.
